Echelon Connect - Heart Rate Monitor drops and connection issues

If I pause a bike ride for 5m, it disconnects my heart rate monitor. If I finish one program, click done, it disconnects my heart rate monitor. Then, I start a cool down or other program and it won't try to connect. When I was able to use Spotify, it would never connect to my fitbit.
